A Mother's Sacrifice

The pelicans children cry out in the nest
But food is scare, the fish have fled
So she thrusts her beak into her breast
Over white feathers her blood runs red
For the pelican's children must be fed
And with nothing else for her to give
In this selfless act her blood was shed
She gave part of herself so her children could live
