Life Quest

Young Indian takes his first Vision Quest
Armed only with his loincloth and knife
Out to prove his skills at their best
Only then will he be man enough for a wife

Seeking the proper tools to make a sweat lodge here
Spending the better part of a day hunting and gathering
Cut brush and wood to hold the smoke of unknown fear
Stones and water to sweat into existence visions enlightening

Pouring water onto heated rocks bringing forth steamy dreams
Visions of Brother Otter, Sister Wolf and Cousin Bear abound
Sharing their knowledge and Spirit abilities, bursting at the seams
Day of visions tear at his Spirit, form stories of dreaming sound

Exhausted he exits the lodge, the better man and whole of soul
Wiser for his experience, he knows the journey has just begun
For every answer he has found leads to another question whole
A journey of a full life to forever learn until his final setting sun
