Pale moonlight cascades down upon a metallic
hood
The reflection the pond on the drivers' side door
And laying upon a fleece blanket among an unspoiled field
We wait
And as if we simply willed it to be
A heavenly body leaves its trace through the night sky
Leaving its shadow for only a moment and dying
Our own eyes having seen it's birth, life, and death
We gasp
Only the sound of the creatures of the dark can be heard
The crickets and frogs serenade our outing
The lightning bugs create a spectacle of luminescence
And the meteors make one question their own existence
We ponder
Running a hand through soft blades of grass
The dew I have only seen in morning covers my fingers
In my mind I am running my hands through her hair
And all this time I thought she was beside me
I am alone
Her presence was there as clear as day
But it is night and she is nowhere to be found
She cannot share this moment with me
I cannot enjoy this any longer
I lament
The moon begins to grieve and hides itself behind a cloud
The weather feels my pain and a sharp cold breeze blows through
The crickets and frogs are too depressed to sing
The stars all fade away
I cry
The earth curses the forces that brought me pain
A storm rolls into being and lashes at the ground
Great flashes of light whip upon the grass
Roars of disagreement rumble into my ears
And the sky cries as well, tears mixing with my own
I am comforted
My legs move shakily and I stand there among this place
Rolling my blanket and looking up to the sky
Peering to where the nothingness of space should be
And seeing only weeping clouds
I agree
The car ride home was void of sound
Save for the hum of acceleration
No one on the road to share my pain
And worse..
There would be no one at home either
I live on
