Second chances

I ran the forgotten race and failed
I was once in first and now I trail
This is a game I cannot compete
Against an opponent I cannot beat
But this time I promise to find the will
All this time I love you still
Lend your hand to me and likewise your heart
And let a new race start
I have spent this time in preparation
Through perspiration you were my inspiration
To not only succeed but win you again
If the 3rd time is a charm, the 2nd time is a sin.
