Seeking Meaning

A grain of sand
on this beach
full of sand:
a faceless
identity.

I become
a child
a sibling
a friend
a worker
a leader
a lover
a parent.
Who am I
who becomes
all this?
A chameleon?
This ain't me,
my inner core!

I want
no mask
no facade
no pretense
no game.

I've been
psychoanalyzed
bioenergeticized
rolfed
yogified
mindfilled
brainwashed
acupunctured
myofasciated.

The petals have wilted,
the thorns now prick.

I've become
a slave
to my idea
of myself!

So goes forth
this saga
this quest
for beauty
for truth
for the holy
the profane
this untamed lust
for purity
for salvation
this rite
of passage
to nirvana!

Where do I find
my self?
I become myself
when I do not.
I find myself
when I find you,
and you
when I find me!
Tee hee hee!
