Shadows On The Wall

Shadows on the wall, silhouettes in gloom
Pantomime your life
And lend contours to the shapes of your strife
but leave the substance out-
Like a mute contorted face that cannot shout.
What story lurks in the blackness?
A stairway to light-or darkness?

Shadows on the wall cannot tell it all
But we try and make it so
Like urging an over-wound wind-up toy to go
Too much made from far too little
Like rumors spun from an incomplete riddle.
What truth lingers in the words?
A quiet plea for help--- unheard...

And you have to give a voice to the shadows on the wall
And you have to give an ear to the ones who call
And you have to give a hand to the ones who fall
And you have to give a damn or you lose it all.

And you have to have a heart that is full of hope
And you have to have the will deep inside to cope
And you have to have that true visionary scope
And you have to have the courage to cut the rope!

That binds you in the maze of your misspent youth
That keeps you postponing your search for the truth
That traps you in the fear of doing what you must do
That will make the shadows on the wall talk to you
